Vice President Kamala Harris is set to oppose the sale of U.S. Steel to Japan’s Nippon Steel during a joint campaign event with President Joe Biden in Pittsburgh on Monday. Harris will advocate for U.S. Steel to remain under domestic ownership, aligning with the White House’s stance against the proposed sale.

Harris is expected to emphasize her commitment to supporting American steelworkers and ensuring that U.S. Steel remains American-owned and operated. This position mirrors President Biden’s opposition to the sale, aimed at maintaining robust American steel companies supported by domestic workers.

This marks a significant policy declaration from Harris, who has generally been cautious in making such statements since Biden’s endorsement of her candidacy in July following his decision to withdraw from the 2024 race.

While Harris strives to present herself as a forward-looking leader, her approach remains closely aligned with Biden’s goals of expanding government programs to support the middle class. Despite differences in style and urgency, the core objectives of her policy stance reflect the administration’s broader agenda.
